Prof. Dr. Amanda Goodall's research strongly argues that outstanding researchers with a good understanding of the current organizational challenges facing universities make the best rectors and presidents. She can also show beyond the higher education context why leaders with a deeper understanding of the subject matter of their organization make the crucial difference to the success and also the happiness of the people who work there. However, it is also important for her to emphasize that outstanding researchers are not automatically good leaders. Before they take on top positions, they need specific training and experience as the head of a large research program/center, as a dean or as a vice rector.
